Yoruba elders fume over killings in South West

Yoruba elders fume over killings in South West

Yoruba elders have sounded a note of warning to suspected Niger Delta militants attacking communities in the Southwest to stop, saying enough is enough.
The elders, speaking under aegis of Yoruba Unity Forum, YUF, also vowed the perpetrators of the attacks will not go unpunished.
According to the elders, recurrent criminal activities of terrorists, militants, oil thieves, kidnappers, armed robbers and Fulani herdsmen in the region had claimed many lives and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in recent times.
The YUF, in a statement signed  by its Chairman, Rev Emmanuel Gbonigi and Secretary, Senator Anthony Adefuye, said they were compelled to aver again that the murderous activities of the criminals were stressing the peace, stability and corporate existence of the country.
Vowing that the Southwest would not be allowed to become a theatre for the prosecution war or criminal activities, they said: ‘’Nigeria is at the precipice, threats of insecurity to life and property is no longer the exclusive preserve of any particular community. The peace and quiet in the Southwest in the last few weeks has again come under attack in spite of the ongoing criminal activities of armed Fulani herdsmen in the region.
‘’The attacks this time is coming from an unlikely foe, the Niger Delta Militants. The despicable criminality by this group against innocent citizens of Igbolomu and Ishawo areas of Ikorodu In Lagos shall not go unpunished. The South-west, people are peaceful, accommodating, hospitable, and are gratified neighbours.”
