Sheriff mocks opponents, says cour

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has maintained that he remains the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), denying that he was sacked by any court.
In a statement he made available in Abuja after the said sack, which was signed by the National Secretary of his
faction, Prof. Wale Oladipo, Sheriff insisted that the court pronouncement had nothing to do with either his tenure or that of his predecessor, Adamu Mu’azu.
Describing reports that he has been sacked as “completely false and a clear misrepresentation” of the ruling of the
court, he argued that the court only heard and delivered judgement on a matter bothering on certain amendments in the PDP constitution.
We therefore urge those misleading the media and the unsuspecting public to desist from such. The media is also urged to always cross-check their facts before going to press,” he said.
Sheriff faction on June 29, regardless of the court ruling conducted its governorship primary election on Wednesday, meaning that PDP now has two candidates for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.

Abia: Ogar gets certificate from INEC, to take over from Gov Ikpeazu

Mr Uche Ogar may likely take over from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of the state anytime from now.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, handed over the Certificate of Return to Ogah in fulfilment of the order by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja who sacked Ikpeazu.
The judge affirmed that Governor Ikpeazu does not possess the requisite qualification to contest the election as governor, in that he did not furnish credible evidence of payment of tax, to the Abia State Government.
The court therefore directed INEC to issue a certificate of return to Mr. Ogah, the candidate who came second in the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s governorship primary.
As the latest news filtered into the state, the governor, who was billed to deliver a speech at the Abia state University, hurriedly left the venue of the event with his entourage.
A chieftain of the PDP, Prof. Jerry Gana who was also billed to deliver a speech at the event, along with other dignitaries also left.
Meanwhile, there is uneasy calm in the Government House and capital city, Umuahia as the news spreads.
Meanwhile the development has thrown a spanner in the political arrangement in the state known as Abia Charter of Equity which seeks to distribute political power equally among the zones in the state.
With the sack of Ikpeazu, the governorship goes back to Abia north, which has enjoyed the post for eight years under Theodore Orji, the immediate past governor.

Chairman of senate committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator David Umaru, asked him to leave, saying, “we invited the AGF not you, so please excuse.”

There is indeed a cabal in Buhari’s govt, Kwara APC says

The trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, may soon expose the crack in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as the Kwara State chapter of the party, on Tuesday, said it supported Saraki’s view that “there is a government within the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The Kwara State chapter of the party, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, also faulted the response from the Presidency through Mr. Femi Adesina.
According to the Kwara APC, what it expected from the Presidency was to embrace introspection and take right steps in the interest of the nation instead of embarking on a futile drive to denounce and dismiss the obvious.
The party in the state, which said doing the right thing in the interest of the nation had become necessary so as to forestall the wrath of Nigerians who are getting weary of excuses for the numerous challenges facing the country,
also accused the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina of trying to create discord between the Prseident and the Senate leadership.
The statement read in part: “The statement by Mr. Femi Adesina on behalf of Mr. President is not only unpresidential, it also failed to convincingly dismiss the widely held view of Nigerians that, indeed, there is a government within the government of Mr. President.
“It is instructive to note that the Senate President is not the first Nigerian to express such observations.
“The Senate President, through the press statement he personally signed, only called the attention of Mr. President to the danger ahead if the ugly situation is permitted to fester.
“In fact, the statement by Mr. Adesina is the clearest indication that a government exists within the government of Mr. President. The President that we know, the President that we have worked with, the President that we have worked for, the President that we voted for, would not have directed his media adviser to issue such an unpresidential statement. That statement is a confirmation of the Senate President’s observation.
“The intention of people like Adesina in the Villa is to create a discord between Mr. President and the Senate President, but that will never happen.
“It is the same cabal that embarrassed Mr. President himself by padding the 2016 national budget, including the budget of Aso Rock, to the extent of inflating some figures in the Villa expenditures.
“It is the same cabal that has made it nearly impossible for many ministers and Special Advisers to have access to Mr. President. The Presidency should be reminded that a cabal hijacked and destroyed the government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.”

7 tips to survive mosquitoes during the rainy season

By Nkem Ndem . . .
The rainy season has resumed with full force, and if you are living in or visiting Nigeria, you may have already felt a sting or two of mosquitoe bites. Being bitten by insects such as mosquitoes can put a damper on holiday fun and potentially transmit diseases like Malaria. Most visitors have testified that the mosquitoes in the country have iron teeth and that the common commercial bug sprays which contain toxins and chemicals, do not kill them or reduce their terror and are harmful to humans.
All concerns are well-justified. However, mosquitoes should not be enough reason to stop you from visiting Nigeria this rainy season. Fortunately we have put together seven tips to help anyone survive these mosquitoes which plague many during rainy season. Good thing is you may not need to buy insecticides if you can apply these tips.
1) Stay indoors at peak times
Mosquitoes are sometimes considered nocturnal insects as they attack mostly at dawn and at dusk. The best way to avoid mosquito bites is by avoiding contact with them in the first place. Plan your movements such that you are indoors around those peak times when they are most active.
2) Stay in cool environments, control sweating
It is no secret, at least to Nigerians who have had to deal with mosquitoes over the years, that mosquitoes are attracted to people who sweat or people with higher body temperatures. The hot body temperature sends signals to mosquitoes that the buffet is now open. It is important to stay as cool and dry as you can. Also, use a fan and air conditioner whenever you can.
3) Stay away from alcohol
This may come as surprise, but it appears mosquitoes are alcoholics. For reasons yet unknown, mosquitoes are attracted to those who consume alcohol more than those that do not. So, if you want to steer clear of mosquitoes, you may want to put a pin on your drinking, or at least ensure your location is secure before drinking.
4) Watch how you dress
You may think mosquitoes are too tiny and they do not have eyes enough to notice what you are wearing…wrong! Dark clothing seems to be more attractive to mosquitoes than light coloured outfits. If you want to survive mosquitoes, try wearing light colored clothes which are not too tight, preferably long sleeved shirts with long pants and socks .
5) Ensure you have a good drainage system and treat stagnant water
Mosquitoes breed in shrubby areas and stagnant water. To ensure you do not encourage breeding, carefully drain and remove any objects that may collect water around your house and yard. Also, treat water with chemicals and oils that are toxic for mosquitoes but considered safe for humans.
6) Plant herbs that repel mosquitoes around the house
Certain herbs are very good mosquito repellants. Plant such herbs as marigolds, lavender, basil, peppermint and lemon balm around your living area or in pots around your door or porch to keep mosquitoes away. In addition, you can crush and rub some on your skin for a natural repellent.
7) Take a pass on perfume
Perfumes are great, but they can be a huge magnet for mosquitoes. Just as you find the aroma pleasing, chances are mosquitoes find them pleasing as well. Floral scents tend to be the most appealing to them, so, to save your skin and avoid being eaten alive, skip the perfume and opt for scent-free soaps, lotions and deodorant instead.

Femi Falana & Afenifere are BH terrorists — General Burutai

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has described those calling for the probe of his mansions in Dubai as defeated Boko Haram Terrorists.
The list of those calling for his probe includes Femi Falana, Afenifere, Sahara Reporters and many other well-meaning Nigerians.
According to Buratai “I am not supposed to be commenting again on this issue because both the Federal Government and the Army have addressed it.
“However, what I can say is that we have defeated the terrorists on the land and they have now migrated to the cyberspace.
“But I want to assure that we will follow these Boko Haram that migrated to the cyberspace to wherever they are. We will follow them and clear their doubts.
“Let’s be clear about this: no place or territory is being held by these terrorists.
“And of course you know that if terrorists are dislodged from one place they move to another even across countries.
“Right now we have received reports of these terrorists moving to other areas; including the internet.
“And when we say that the terrorists have been defeated and not holding any territory, have they come out to debunk it.
“No. No one has come to tell you that they are holding territory,” Burutai stated.
Sahara Reporters broke the news of General Burutais purchase of porche homes in Dubai. The report has that Burutai paid for two properties within days of his appointment as the chief of Army Staff.
Burutai accepted the allegation, but stressed that he paid for the houses with his personal savings.
Nigerians in the know has accused Burutai of being economical with the truth in the sense that all his savings could not add up $1.5 million he used to purchase both houses.
President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to make any official statement regarding the allegations leveled against his chief of Army Staff.

EFCC questions CBN Governor
The acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has vowed to go after anybody that is remotely connected with any iota of fraud.
According to Magu, Bank managers and those who helped perpetrate economic fraud will be brought to book.
Hear him: “There is no sacred cow as far as this fight against corruption is concerned.
“We will go after anybody who has committed an offence. We will collect the money back, so that it will go back to the treasury and be used for the original purposes.
“I don’t care whether you’re black or white or you come from party A or Party B.
“The moment it can be established that you have stolen from the public treasury, we will go after you.
“Even right here [in EFCC], if we discover that you’re corrupt, we will kick you out. And we are already doing that.
“So we don’t go after innocent people. We are going after the thieves of state resources.”
Reacting to the role of Banks in laundering stolen funds, Magu stated that there is a rise in an illegal form of banking which he described as private banking.
“We had a discussion with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and I insisted that this so-called private banking should be stopped. It is illegal. It is wrong.
“We are not only going after the personnel of the banks but also after the banks.
“What happens is that when a staff of the bank is involved in such activities, what the bank does is to take the person out of the system through dismissal.
“But now, we are going to go after the banks and the personnel used to perpetrate the fraud.
“It takes two to tango. In fact, very soon you will see us going after the Managing Directors of the banks.
“We don’t care what happens because the right thing has to be done. These people have given a lot of room for the money laundering activities to thrive.
“They were used to hide all the stolen money.”
When asked about the Halliburton scandal, Magu stated that “The Halliburton scandal investigation is on.
